Overview
We're excited to let you know about a new feature on your tutor dashboard: the ability to end tutoring with a student, right from the Students section.
This feature is rolling out gradually, so you may not see it on your dashboard right away. If it's not there yet, it's on its way.
Before you start
- You've completed your final tutoring session with this student. This action is immediate and cannot be scheduled for later
- You've identified the reason that best matches your situation
- If your reason involves contacting the guardian (for example, non-response), you've already made and can confirm those attempts
Step-by-step
Step 1: Go to the Students section of your dashboard.
Step 2: Find the student and click "End tutoring with this student"
Step 3: Select the reason that best fits from the dropdown.
Step 4: Confirm the attestation(s) shown for that reason.
Step 5: Submit.
What happens next
Most reasons process immediately. You'll see a confirmation, and the student's status updates right away.
A few reasons or when we it deem necessary are routed to our team for manual review instead. You won't see an immediate status change; our team will follow up with next steps.
If this was your only matched student, you'll be moved to On Hold, with a reminder that you can use "Request Additional Students" any time you're ready for more. If you have other matched students, your own status stays the same.
When to use this feature
Use this any time tutoring with a specific student has truly ended. A scheduling conflict, non-responsive family after multiple outreach attempts, the student no longer needing tutoring, or a life change. It replaces emailing us directly to end a match.
When not to use this feature
This is not for a temporary break. If you or your student need to pause and plan to resume later, email us at tutorsupport@stepuptutoring.org instead so we can help you find the right option.
FAQ
I have more than one student. Can I drop just one?
Yes. Dropping one student doesn't affect your other matches, and your own status stays the same as long as you still have at least one other matched student.
Is there a limit to how many students I can drop?
Yes. You should not be dropping students often to get a replacement. It should only be used when truly necessary. We are keeping an eye on how this feature is used. And will route requests for manual review when we deem fit.
What if I actually just need a temporary pause, not a permanent end?
Don't use this tool for that, please email tutorsupport@stepuptutoring.org and we'll help.
I don't see the button on my dashboard yet. Why not?
This feature is rolling out gradually. If you don't see it yet, check back soon, or contact us if you need to end tutoring with a student now.
