Onboarding at Step Up
Onboarding is the process of training a new team member in an organization. The Onboarding Portal is our online platform that allows you to complete all the steps necessary to become a tutor with Step Up. On the portal, you can track your progress through each of the required steps. You can also access Training Resources, our 24/7 Help Center, and even contact us for extra support.
There's no specific sequence for completing our onboarding steps. It's entirely at your discretion! Everything is self-paced, and the onboarding team provides support and resources for each step in the process. The faster you complete the onboarding process, the faster we can get you matched with a student. The process can be completed in 1-2 days. However, we suggest prioritizing the background check process as it may take a few days for us to receive your clearance.
Accessing the Onboarding Portal
If you are accepted into our program as a tutor, you will receive access to your Onboarding Portal after you complete a 20-minute interview with a Step Up Tutoring team member.
Finishing Onboarding
When you complete all the onboarding steps, our team will move your account into a status indicating you are able to be matched. When this happens, you will receive an email that provides access to your new Step Up Tutoring gmail account. This account is how you will access your Tutoring Portal, which you can find more information on here. When this switch is made, be sure to sign into your Tutoring Portal, learn how to navigate it, and update your availability if needed.

Where can I check in on my Onboarding Progress?
A. Information related to your onboarding is accessible within your Onboarding Portal, which is accessible after an interview with a member of our team.

What if I complete onboarding, but need some time before I am matched with a student?
A. If you need time after completing onboarding before getting matched with a student, we can accommodate. Please reach out to onboarding@stepuptutoring.org, so they can indicate this on your account. Our matching team will then hold on matching until the date you provided has arrived.

Can I request which subject to tutor in?
A. Step Up requires tutors to be trained to tutor in both literacy and math. This allows us to match tutors with students more quickly. While you can list a preference of which subject to tutor in, it is not guaranteed since you will be matched based on availability and need rather than by subject area.

What happens after my Interview?
A. After you complete your interview, you will receive an email that communicates whether you have been accepted as a tutor into our program. If you are accepted, you will gain access to a personalized Onboarding Portal where you can complete the training steps required before being matched with a student.
