This article provides a concise overview of the necessary steps for tutors rejoining Step Up Tutoring.
What's New with Step Up Tutoring?
Step Up Tutoring has undergone several significant changes; below is an overview of these adjustments:
- Tutor and Guardian communications are no longer using Remind. Instead, when your match is created, a text message group will be created between the tutor and guardian of the student assigned. You can also message families directly through the message center on the Tutor Portal. You can contact your student's guardian directly here to introduce yourself and schedule sessions.
- Zoom is no longer in use for meetings. Instead, you'll use your Tutor Portal to enter our Online Classroom, which you can learn more about in this article.
- Our literacy program now includes support in foundational literacy for beginner students and reading comprehension for more advanced students.
What do I need to do as a Returning Tutor?
We are happy to hear that you would like to return to tutor with us! We have updated our trainings, which you may not be aware of since you left. Please review the updated training before your first session:
- Full training recording (program updates and tutoring strategies) and slide deck
- Condensed training recording (program updates only) and slide deck
Once matched with a student or substitute job, you will receive a text and an email with all the information about your new student.
- Please be sure to read your match email carefully! It includes important details for getting started smoothly.
- The text message you receive will add you to a private group chat with the parent/guardian. All communication with your student’s parent/guardian will happen via this text thread.
- Save the number as a new contact in your phone under the student/parent’s name with a note indicating they are your Step Up tutee.
