At Step Up Tutoring, we recognize that every tutor has a different schedule, capacity, and level of involvement. Whether you’re a general volunteer or participating in a college-based service program, your tutoring load will be tailored to reflect your availability and program requirements. Below, you’ll find guidance on how many students you can expect to tutor — and how to adjust that number if your circumstances change.
General Volunteer Tutors
General volunteers can indicate their preferred number of students in the application process. After completing the initial 3-month commitment, volunteers have the flexibility to either:
Add more students, or
Reduce their tutoring load
This flexibility ensures that tutors can adjust their commitments based on availability and capacity.
College Program Tutors
If you are a college student participating in a specialized program—such as Federal Work-Study, Angeleno Corps, or College Corps—your tutoring commitment will align with the program's required hours. Typically, this means tutoring 2 to 5 students, depending on your individual service requirements.
A Step Up Tutor Experience Manager will collaborate with you to determine the appropriate number of students and tailor your student roster to meet both program goals and personal preferences.
