Step Up Tutoring provides all training and instructional materials so tutors can lead effective, engaging, and confidence-building sessions with their students. The curriculum and tools you use will depend on whether your student is enrolled in Math or Reading.
Math
For students enrolled in our Math program, tutors use Eedi, an interactive digital platform that builds students’ skills in:
Mathematical understanding
Procedural fluency
Concept mastery
Tutors log into Eedi using the student’s login credentials, which are available:
On the Tutor Portal under Student Details
In the Learning Portal within the student’s profile
Eedi provides targeted question sets and real-time feedback to guide tutoring sessions.
Reading
Students enrolled in the Reading program will be placed into one of two instructional tracks based on their needs:
Foundational Literacy, or
Reading Comprehension
Foundational Literacy
Students who are still learning how to read and write will follow the UFLI Foundations curriculum from the University of Florida Literacy Institute. Step Up will:
Tell you which UFLI lesson to begin with
Provide slide decks and scripts for each session
You’ll also use a supplementary tool called Project Read, which allows you to:
Generate customized decodable texts
Access games and activities that align with your UFLI lessons
These resources reinforce phonics and phonemic awareness in a personalized and fun way.
Reading Comprehension
For students working on comprehension, you’ll use ReadWorks, a research-backed platform that supports:
Background knowledge building
Vocabulary development
Reading comprehension strategies
Each session, the tutor and student will choose one or more interest-based passages and work together on:
Vocabulary exercises
Comprehension questions
Discussion and critical thinking prompts
