Please understand that a lack of response is not a lack of appreciation for tutoring – many of the families we serve have very busy schedules and sometimes lack reliable internet access. Your patience is much appreciated by the families and Step Up staff.
If you are having difficulty contacting the family after sending a text message at least three times, then please try a phone call by calling the number in your text thread. Late afternoons/evenings tend to be the best times to call. You can use the scripts below:

First Text: Hello, {Guardian’s name}! I’m {Tutor’s name}, {Student’s name}’s new tutor with Step Up Tutoring. I’m really excited to start working with {Student’s name}! We will meet two times every week for 45 minutes. Does {{assigned meeting times}} work for {Student’s name}? If not, what other times work?
Follow-up Text: Hello, {Guardian’s name}! I’m checking in from Step Up Tutoring about getting started with tutoring sessions for {Student’s name}. We’re aiming to get started in the next week, so please confirm if the schedule I suggested works and let me know if you have any questions.
Second Follow-up Text: Hello, {Guardian’s name}! I’m checking in again from Step Up Tutoring about getting started with tutoring sessions for {student’s name}. Does {{assigned meeting times}} work for {Student’s name}?
Phone Call/Voicemail Script: Hello, {Guardian’s name}! I’m your child’s assigned tutor with Step Up Tutoring and I’m checking in about starting tutoring sessions for {Student’s name}. We’re aiming to get started as soon as possible. Does {{assigned meeting times}} work for your child? If not, what other times work? You can text or call me back at this number. Looking forward to hearing from you soon! |
If after 3 unresponsive texts and a phone call, please contact our staff at tutorsupport@stepuptutoring.org. We will work to rematch you with a student whose family is responsive and ready to start tutoring!
