At Step Up Tutoring, maintaining consistent, positive, and safe tutoring experiences is essential to student success. Below is a summary of the key policies and procedures all tutors are expected to follow. Please review these carefully and reach out to tutorsupport@stepuptutoring.org if you have any questions.
Regular Attendance
Tutors are expected to meet with students twice a week for at least 45 minutes per session. Tutoring sessions may be scheduled Monday through Friday, 2:30–8:00 PM PT, with one weekend session allowed if requested by the family.
Absence Policy:
Missing 1 session: Coordinate with the family to reschedule.
Missing 2 or more sessions: Submit a substitute request and notify Tutor Support.
First 2 weeks: Please do not request a substitute to ensure a strong foundation with your student.
2 or more weeks of absence without communication: Your student may be reassigned.
Family Communication
Clear and professional communication with families helps build trust and consistency.
Use the Step Up text thread or the Tutor Portal message center only.
Send an introductory message and schedule the first session within 24 hours of being matched.
Host the first session within 7 days of being matched.
If a family is unresponsive after 3 attempts at outreach, report it to the Tutor Experience Team.
Proactively communicate any schedule changes or delays.
Submit Weekly Progress Updates for each student using the form on the left sidebar of the Tutor Portal.
Session Protocols
Set the tone for a productive and engaging session by following these expectations:
Use the Learning Portal in a quiet, distraction-free space.
Follow all tech guidelines, ensuring your video and audio are working and your internet connection is stable.
Reschedule missed sessions within the same week when possible.
Bring a positive attitude to keep sessions fun and encouraging!
Student Safety
We take student safety very seriously. If you witness or hear something concerning, report it immediately to tutorsupport@stepuptutoring.org.
When reporting, please include:
A brief description of what occurred
The date and time of the incident
Whether you witnessed it or it was shared by the student
Who was involved
Report any signs of:
Violence
Abuse
Threats to self or others
Other inappropriate behavior
